1988 Topps: 635th Place - James Steels

Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. 635th Place - James Steels. James Steels" sounds like the perfect secret identity for a comic book hero. A last name of "Steals" would have been even better since he twice swiped 35 bases in a season in the minor leagues. Is a good indicator of why. I couldn't find much on Steels on the interwebs.hmm, maybe he is a super hero! Player of the year in 1984. I found a couple.

1988 Topps: July 2015

Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Friday, July 31, 2015. 637th Place - Jim Traber. Let's see here, Jim Traber.seems like an innocent enough card. Let's just turn it over and look on the back. Traber didn't even play in the majors in 1987! How did he get a card in the 1988 set? He did smack 21 homers with a .481 slugging percentage in Rochester, but I'm kind of stunned they included him. Saturday, July 25, 2015. 638th Place - Jose Uribe.

Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Sunday, August 24, 2014. 665th Place - Calvin Schiraldi. My apologies to any Sox fans who just threw something at their computer screen. Rightly or wrongly, Schiraldi is a dirty word for many in New England. He was a key culprit in the 1986 World Series collapse. Despite flashes of brilliance. Early in his career, Schiraldi would retire by the age of 29. Saturday, August 23, 2014. 666th Place - Greg Booker.

Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Monday, August 3, 2015. 636th Place - Robbie Wine. I replied that I was here, and she asked if I went by Robert or a nickname of that. I don't know why, but I said, "Rob." I guess now that I was in a new city and a big-time third grader, I figured it was time to go with a more mature iteration. Grandma Bonnie was kind of crazy. Robbie Wine is the son of former big leaguer Bobby Wine. I'll throw a "gratuito...

1988 Topps: 638th Place - Jose Uribe

Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Saturday, July 25, 2015. 638th Place - Jose Uribe. Ugh Wasn't really looking forward to writing this one up. That's because Jose Uribe passed away in a tragic car accident. In his native Dominican Republic in 2006. It seems Uribe's former teammates were quite devastated. July 29, 2015 at 9:24 AM. One of my favorite infields (along with the 76 Reds and the current Giants infield). July 31, 2015 at 9:01 PM.

Talking Baseball and Baseball Cards while focusing on the 70's and 80's. In January 2014, I opted to take a jump into the world of set building. I built tons of sets as a kid during the 1980’s, but it has been more than 25 years since I last pieced together a set that consists of more than thirty cards. 1975 is the year of my birth, and it has long been a baseball season that I have wanted to honor. So, with that, I have begun the process of building this set from scratch, card by card, to completion.

Talking Baseball and Baseball Cards while focusing on the 70's and 80's. I like to read and I like to write. And if I have my say as to what I get to read and write about, it will surely be baseball! Over the last few years I have read my share of terrific books about our favorite pastime. I though this would be a good place to showcase the books that I have read just in case you’re interested in picking something up. Oh, and to make things interesting I will assign a rating to each book. The Game Is Eas...

1988 Topps: 634th Place - Dwayne Henry
http://1988topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/634th-place-dwayne-henry.html
Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Sunday, August 9, 2015. 634th Place - Dwayne Henry. All that being said, there was something lovable about how bad the Rangers were. Dwayne Henry's card symbolizes some of that. When you look on the back of it, you see the stats: 4.94 career ERA, 46 strikeouts compared to 45 walks.it's all so Rangers. I love it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
